Understanding Cavity Restoration

It takes time for a cavity to form on your tooth. The attacks to your enamel come from oral bacteria, which release acids as part of how they digest foods (they feed on the sugars in your diet). When enough of those attacks occur, a cavity will form in your enamel. While you have some natural ability to recover from this sort of dental damage, you will need restorative dental work to fix a cavity. The process needed to restore a tooth with a cavity will depend on the cavity itself. The size and spread of decay, and the possibility that the interior of your tooth is affected, will determine how your dentist needs to act. (more…)

3 Reasons People Choose To Receive Porcelain Veneers

The field of cosmetic dentistry makes it possible to make a distracting physical flaw with your smile a thing of the past. These procedures are elective in nature, but can have a big impact on a person’s confidence and comfort with their smile. One way people often choose to improve their appearance is by having porcelain veneers placed on teeth. There are several explanations for the enduring popularity of such a procedure. One advantage is that the benefits last for many years (though poor care can shorten their lifespan). They also manage to hide several flaws with a single treatment. If you can point to one issue – or more – with your smile, you can inquire about porcelain veneers with your dentist. If you are approved for the procedure, you can find yourself with a dramatically improved appearance after only two visits. (more…)

Protecting Vulnerable Teeth

Your risk for dental issues can differ from another person’s – your issues can also differ from your relative risk in the past. Sometimes, a change in the state of your oral health will make you more vulnerable to tooth issues. A problem like dry mouth, for instance, can leave your teeth more at the mercy of oral bacteria than normal, and make it easier for you to develop a cavity. Other issues can be serious, though not necessarily related to cavities. People dealing with bruxism have a real risk of suffering structural damage to their teeth. If you are aware of dental risks, you should confer with your dentist about how to counter those risks. (more…)

If you have lost a tooth, or are about to have a tooth extracted, your dentist can offer you helpful information about the benefits of implants.
