How A Dental Bridge Stays In Position

There are real functional advantages to a permanently placed prosthetic dental piece. When you enjoy real stability, you can use the prosthetic when you bite and chew food. It can also be more comfortable, as you do not have to worry about it coming loose. You might be curious as to how your prosthetic stays in place. There are multiple approaches to this. One way you can enjoy a permanent replacement is with a dental bridge. The bridge is a construct with the replacement unit set between two dental crowns. The crowns are placed over surrounding teeth, and they keep the dummy tooth secure. This allows you to enjoy a permanent prosthetic, without needing oral surgery to have it stay in place. (more…)

Your Dentist Looks Out For A Range Of Oral Health Problems

Your oral health faces multiple threats, which is why your dentist looks for a range of problems every time you go in for a general dental checkup. Many people think of their dentist as being primarily after any signs of tooth decay. While cavity treatment plays a vital part in sustaining your dental condition, there are other issues that can cause trouble. Bruxism can threaten the physical integrity of your teeth – the condition can cause you to grind them with enough force to create chips and cracks. There are also threats to your oral health that are not specific to your teeth. The health of your gums and soft tissue within your mouth also receive attention. (more…)

3 Things To Consider Before Undergoing Cosmetic Dental Work

What will cosmetic dental work involve? That can depend on the treatment you select. If you simply want to have your teeth professionally whitened, you may be able to do that from your own home. Cosmetic dental work can offer a range of benefits for your smile. When you discuss your options with your dentist, and determine what procedure you want, and what results you want to see, you can enjoy a fantastic upgrade to your appearance. (more…)

Early Cavity Treatment Can Spare You From A Root Canal

Did you know that you can control what treatment you receive for a cavity? You can…sort of. While your dentist determines what procedure needs to occur to address tooth decay, you can improve your chances of avoiding a root canal by seeking cavity treatment early. When you have restorative dental work done when a cavity is still small, you may only need a filling to fix your tooth after decay has been removed. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to know that there is a problem early. You can make it easier to catch a problem by attending regular checkups, where your dentist can study your teeth carefully. What Makes Sleep Apnea Different From Snoring

Snoring may be a symptom of sleep apnea, but it is not accurate to use the terms interchangeably. When you snore, it is because a partial blockage of your airways causes you to produce noise. Sleep apnea involves a total airway blockage, and you can go without air for ten seconds or more. To clear the blockage, your body will have to wake up, though you might not remember waking up. The frequent disruptions to your sleep cycle you experience with sleep apnea make this condition a real health concern. Your dentist can help treat sleep apnea, and can do so without requiring you to use a CPAP machine. (more…)

Quiz: Restoring Teeth With Tooth Decay

What does your dentist do about tooth decay? There is more than one way to deal with a cavity. The best solution can depend on how large the cavity has gotten, and if it has made its way to the interior of your tooth. In order to know what restorative dental treatment to use, your dentist will have to have an opportunity to observe the decay. If you think you have a cavity, be sure to see your dentist as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more a cavity can spread! (more…)

Choosing Between At-Home And In-Office Teeth Whitening

Choosing a professional whitening treatment means enjoying a dramatically whiter smile – the kind of improvement that regular brushing or store-bought products are unable to provide. These professional treatments use bleaching agents that are able to take care of stains that lie below your enamel’s surface. That level of reach means a more impressive change. You have different options for how you would like to whiten your teeth. A professional treatment in the office can be performed, but you can also request to whiten your teeth at home. (more…)
