While Dr. Jones, Dr. Harris, and our dental team do everything in our power to provide you with premier dental care during your appointments, a large part of maintaining your dental work rests on your shoulders once you leave our Dallas/Fort Worth-area dentist office. To keep your dental work intact and your teeth healthy and sparkling for years to come, follow these home care instructions.

After Dental Filling Appointments

If anesthetic is used when Dr. Jones places your dental filling, your lips and tongue may remain numb for several hours following your appointment. Until the numbness wears off, refrain from chewing and drinking hot beverages, as it is very easy to burn or bite your tongue or lip while numb.

If you experience any sensitivity to heat, cold, or pressure, as well as any pain at the site of the injection following your appointment, take a mild painkiller like Motrin, Ibuprofen, Tylenol, or aspirin (one tablet every three to four hours) until the pain subsides. If the pressure or sensitivity increases or persists for more than two days, call our office at 817-473-6227. (more…)

Seth Harris gave an overview of the cosmetic dental treatments he provides to his patients from across the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area at his Mansfield dentist office. Today, he’d like to do the same with the restorative procedures he offers.

A Fully Functional Smile

Although a beautiful smile is important to your level of self-confidence and the way other people perceive you, it’s not enough to just have a physically attractive smile. To eat, speak, and smile with confidence and ease, your smile has to function properly, and that is impossible when your teeth and gums are damaged and unhealthy. Dr. Jones and Dr. Harris truly believe in the power of restorative and reconstructive dentistry to fulfill full function and comfort to his patients’ smiles.

Your Six-Month Dental Checkups and Cleanings

Brushing and flossing your teeth daily is a very important component to keeping your smile healthy, but there are some things your toothbrush and floss can’t do. Visiting Dr. Jones and Dr. Harris every six months for a professional cleaning and checkup is an essential part of preventive dental care. Our team is devoted to keeping your smile and your whole body healthy and beautiful. Your dental checkup offers several helpful benefits.

Cleaning and Exam

Your oral assessment will begin with an overall look at your mouth. Our team will take dental X-rays to help detect tooth decay, gum disease, alignment, and other problems in their early stages. We will also review your full medical history so we can determine your risk of health problems that are affected by your oral health. Furthermore, our powerful dental tools will scrape tartar off your teeth and polish your smile. Our professional cleaning will clear out plaque and tartar from below your gum line and other spots that you can’t reach on your own.

Communication and Education

Drs. Jones and Harris will discuss the condition of your mouth so you know how to properly take care of it. If you have any dental problems, we will discuss your treatment options and fully explain all the information you need to know to keep your mouth healthy. We encourage you to ask questions and discuss your concerns if there’s anything you don’t understand. We also want you to feel as comfortable and confident as possible, so if you have any anxiety, please let us know so we can make accommodations. Educating you about your oral health will help you understand what you need to do to protect your teeth and gums.

Your bi-annual checkup with Dr. Jones and Dr. Harris will help assess your oral health to keep your smile healthy and beautiful. To schedule your professional checkup, contact Mansfield Dental Associates at (817) 473-6227.
