We strive to ensure our patients enjoy a comfortable and relaxing visit. We also want the procedures we prescribe to offer oral health improvement, leaving you with a healthy and natural looking smile. In order to accomplish this, we treat our Mansfield, TX, patients with advanced technology. In today’s blog, we’re looking at how digital x-rays, sedation, and more help patients enjoy their time in the chair!

Digital X-Rays

During your initial visit, we will perform a thorough checkup to assess the health and stability of your smile. In order to obtain a detailed picture of your oral health, we may perform a digital x-ray. No more biting on uncomfortable bite wings, instead we use digital technology to gather detailed images in minutes. We can then show them instantly chairside, no need for a lengthy development period that requires harmful chemicals. The images enable us to see your teeth, gums, jaw, and oral structures in incredible detail, while also using a fraction of the radiation required in traditional x-rays.

Intraoral Cameras

A long with digital x-rays, we will also use intraoral cameras. A minuscule camera is set at the end of a special wand, allowing us to comfortably take a series of photos of your teeth, gums, and oral structures. These images enable us to create a 3D model of your smile and offer a more accurate and precise diagnosis. We also use this technology to create a 3D digital impression, instead of having you bite down on a sticky mold for several minutes. With these digital technologies, our team can identify developing problems, from cavities and infections to gingivitis, gum disease, and oral cancer, in the earliest possible stages. In some cases, we can treat these issues before you experience any of the uncomfortable symptoms!

Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation

What if you have dental anxiety? We understand that for many, a fear of the dentist is very real. To help them relax and receive the care necessary to enjoy optimal oral health, we may suggest sedation. Whether you’re undergoing a routine cleaning, or having a tooth extracted, these cleaning agents help you enter a relaxed state, with little no memory of the procedure afterward.

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is the most common. We administer through a mask over the nose. After inhaling the gas, the patient enters a calm state. As soon as the procedure ends, so will the effects of the gas. You can even return to work or school! Oral sedation offers a deeper state of relaxation. We administer via a pill before the procedure. Patients enter a more substantial relaxed state. The effects will take time to wear off, so you should arrange for a friend or family member to bring you home.
