Memorial Day weekend is an important holiday to celebrate our military members’ sacrifices for our nation. Memorial Day weekend is also a symbolic kick-off to the summer season. This weekend, there is a lot going on in and around Mansfield, Texas to celebrate both Memorial Day and the kick-off of summer. Fun Things To Do This Weekend
- Hawaiian Falls will offer free admission to all military personnel and veterans at all of the water parks in Texas, which includes the parks in Garland, The Colony, Mansfield, Roanoke and Waco. Memorial Day weekend includes Saturday, May 26; Sunday, May 27; and Monday, May 28. Tickets for mlitary dependents are $21.99. Children two years old and younger always get free admission. To participate, individuals just need to show a valid military ID or proof of service at the ticket window.
- Cut! Costume and the Cinema at the Arlington Museum of Art opened on May 19th. This exhibit allows you to see cinematic couture and step onto the movie set with 43 costumes from 27 period films. The exhibit covers five centuries of history to show how film costumes set the scene and establish authenticity in films. Some highlights of the show include Johnny Depp’s costume from Pirates of the Caribbean, pieces from the Costume Academy Award winner, The Duchess, and Emmy Rossum’s gown from The Phantom of the Opera.
- The University of Texas at Arlington is hosting the Special Olympics Summer Games this weekend. The Special Olympics Texas’ statewide Summer Games will feature more than 3,000 participants, six different sports, and more than 2,500 volunteers to helping to run the events.
