When you have minor tooth loss, we could provide a lifelike set of dental bridges. But what if you have a more complicated case of tooth loss, or what if you are missing most or all of your teeth? In today’s blog, your Mansfield, TX, dentist can provide a full smile again with custom dentures.
The Impact of Advanced Tooth Loss
Losing a large number of your teeth or all of them can have serious consequences for your oral health. For example, losing several teeth could limit your meal options. You not only find yourself unable to enjoy your favorite dishes, but you could deprive yourself of essential nutrients. In addition, advanced tooth loss could impact how clearly you speak, and you may simply avoid social interactions, which harms your overall quality of life. Don’t let your quality of life and oral health suffer, talk to our team about dentures. We have full and partial options to return your smile to optimal health, function, and beauty again.
Our Partials
If you have lost teeth and have several gaps in your smile, but still enough natural teeth in place that a full prosthetic isn’t necessary, then we could prescribe a partial denture. The prosthetic will contain new ceramic teeth that are shaded to blend with your smile. These are connected to a base made from acrylic that looks like gum tissue. When the prosthetic is in place, the teeth will fit in the gaps in your smile and metal clasps will connect to natural teeth to keep your partial firmly in place. The prosthetic can last about 5 to 10 years before replacement is needed, and we can discuss how to care for them to help them last!
Full Dentures
If you are missing most of your smile, then we can conduct a gentle tooth extraction to pave the way for full dentures. We then take detailed images and impressions, which we use to design and craft your full prosthetic. The prosthetic will contain a complete row of new teeth and suction or the assistance of adhesives will keep your new teeth in place. As with partials, these last about 5 to 10 years, and need to be removed for soaking and cleaning at night.
