Ambassadors For Aging Well (AFAW) is a volunteer organization that meets twice a month to discuss issues of interest to older residents. The meetings are usually divided as one afternoon meeting and one evening meeting. The inclusive group has no membership free; all meetings and events are free to attend. The group was formerly known as “Age-Friendly Arlington” is open to citizens from nearby cities like Mansfield. The group was organized in 2014 in an effort to learn from each other so that they could properly address leaders and the public at large. The group advocates change for making life for elders and emerging elders a good one. AFAW has a main goal of removing the stigma of aging. They try to instill values that aging is not about declining and illness, but rather about continuing to be active, engaged, and vibrant. AFAW considers itself to not only be a resource from its members but to learn from them. Members focus on volunteering for the community to improve life for everybody, including people younger than themselves. AFAW focuses on community participation, issues of housing, transportation, health and human serves. Their next meeting is coming up soon.
