Steps of a Mansfield Dental Check up

Dr. Jones and Dr. Harris follow the American Dental Association’s (ADA) recommendation that patients obtain professional dental cleanings every six months. Below are a list of the steps of a dental check up with your Mansfield dentists.

  • Your dentists’ team may begin by taking digital x-rays to inspect parts of the teeth and jawbone that are not visible.
  • Then, Dr. Jones or Dr. Harris will visually inspect each tooth, checking for cavities, cracks, and the health of previous dental restorations. They will also examine your gums to look for signs of gum disease. At each check up, Dr. Jones or Dr. Harris will perform an oral cancer screening in which they scrutinize the gums, lips, and tongue for any white patches, sores, or lumps. They will listen to any dental concerns and note any recent changes in oral health.
  • Your dental hygienist will then clean and polish your teeth. She may also review best practices for home care including how and when to brush and floss.
  • Dr. Jones or Dr. Harris will then inform you of his conclusions about your oral health, and, if applicable, he will suggest treatment options.
