Do you need missing teeth replaced? You may think your only choices are dentures or dental bridges. Dentures can slip when speaking or eating, and come with messy adhesives. Dental bridges work, but require a reduction in your healthy teeth to support the new bridge. Your Mansfield dentists, Dr. Blair Jones and Dr. Seth Harris, explain how mini dental implants can offer a natural-looking, permanent solution to replacing missing teeth.

What Are Mini Dental Implants?

Implants are small metal posts, placed into the sockets of the missing teeth. The titanium posts eventually fuse with bone, and a replacement teeth are attached to the posts. Mini dental implants allow your Mansfield dentists to replace one or multiple teeth. Since implants are not removable, the patient receives a durable prosthetic that functions as nature intended. Patients can eat, floss, and talk normally, without embarrassing slips common with full or partial dentures.

Placing Dental Implants

The first step is a consultation with your Mansfield cosmetic dentists. Dr. Jones or Dr. Harris will meet with you, examine your teeth, and decide if dental implants or mini dental implants are the right choice for you. Mini implants are used when patients have poor bone density. No surgery is required for mini dental implants, and they hold dentures in place to prevent slipping.

Once the decision has been made, the titanium posts will be inserted into the empty sockets. Three to six months of healing are necessary for the bone to fuse with the posts. This process is known as osseointegration.

Dr. Jones or Dr. Harris will then attach a small connector to the posts. The connector will hold the crown that replaces the tooth. The crown is created based on an impression the dentists take of your tooth, and is shaded to blend with your natural teeth. Once the crown is placed, you will have a full, beautiful smile.

Dental implants and mini dental implants need the same care as your natural teeth. Always maintain proper dental habits such as brushing and flossing. With regular maintenance, dental implants can provide years of flawless dental restoration.
