A cavity resulting from tooth decay is a common dental issue experienced by many patients during their lifetimes. Drinking, eating, and talking may cause you discomfort when you get a toothache. Left untreated, the decay may make its way to the center of your tooth, leading to a root canal treatment or a tooth extraction. Catching cavities early, though, allows us to treat them with dental fillings.
What is a Dental Filling?
While there are several types of dental fillings available to dentists, the ones we use are made from biocompatible composite resin. It is durable, and we can match it to the color of the treated tooth. When placed inside a cavity, the filling can help protect the tooth from further decay. Properly cared for, a dental filling can last up to 15 years.
What is the Treatment Like?
When you visit us for a dental filling, we’ll begin by taking a digital X-ray of your teeth. We’ll go over the procedure with you so that you’re well informed about the process. The tooth needing treatment will be numbed with a local anesthetic, and we will remove the decay. The filling is then placed in the tooth and a light is used to harden the filling.
