WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPANTS AND MINI IMPLANTS?
Dental implant restorations have become the leading choice for replacing missing teeth, now preferred over removable dentures or bridges. These small metal posts can simulate a single tooth or work for multiple missing teeth. Because the bone bonds with the implants, they act as a replacement tooth root. With dental implants, we can help you preserve facial structure and oral health by preventing the deterioration of the surrounding bone that inevitably occurs with missing teeth.
Patients can brush, floss, laugh, and eat comfortably while maintaining a healthy, natural-looking smile with dental implants. Dr. Jones, Dr. Harris, and our staff are dedicated to providing patients with successful implant restorations. Before implant procedure, we will complete a thorough evaluation of your dental health and lifestyle to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. If you don’t have sufficient bone tissue to support the posts, we may suggest bone grafting.
Implant placement involves two steps. During the first part of the process, Dr. Jones and Dr. Harris will position the posts into your jawbone. After surgery, you will need three to six months for your mouth to heal and the bone to adhere to the implants, a process called osseointegration. Dr. Jones or Dr. Harris will then place a permanent dental crown on each implant, giving you back an attractive, full smile.
For patients who do not have adequate bone tissue in the jaw to support conventional implants, or for those who cannot tolerate the traditional implant procedure, Dr. Jones offers mini implants. Also known as the MDI Denture Stabilization System, mini implants are smaller than traditional implants and are more easily inserted into the jawbone, resulting in a shorter, less-invasive procedure. After the mini implants are inserted, Dr. Jones can immediately attach your dentures to them, locking them securely in place.
